Ingredient glossary
Every ingredient we use is listed here — what it is, where it comes from, and what it does. If you see something on one of our product labels and want to know more about it, this is the place to look.
Water is the base of every body lotion we make. It's what allows the other ingredients — butters, oils, emulsifiers — to blend into a smooth, spreadable formula that absorbs into the skin rather than sitting on top of it.
Used in our lip balm flavours and scented body products, aroma refers to the fragrance component that gives each variant its character — from Berry and Piña Colada to Peachy and Cherry Kiss.
C
A plant-derived wax sourced from the leaves of the candelilla shrub, native to northern Mexico. It creates a firm, protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture — making it the structural backbone of our body butter and lip balms. It's also what makes our products fully vegan, as it replaces beeswax.
Pressed from the seeds of the castor plant, this thick oil is used in our lip balms for its ability to add slip and staying power. It helps the balm glide on smoothly and contributes to a longer-lasting feel on the lips without feeling heavy.
Despite the name, this is not a drying alcohol. Cetearyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from natural plant fats, used in our body lotions as part of the Ritamulse SCG emulsifier system. It helps stabilize the formula and gives the lotion its smooth, creamy texture while contributing to skin softness.
Used in our body butter and lip balms for its deep conditioning properties. Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids that help soften and nourish the skin, and it melts on contact with body temperature, making it easy to absorb.
Finely milled oats that have been processed so they disperse evenly in water. Used in our body lotions, colloidal oats are well known for their ability to soothe and calm irritated or sensitive skin. They form a light protective film on the skin's surface and help retain moisture throughout the day.
G

A plant-derived humectant used in our body lotions. Glycerin draws moisture from the environment into the skin and helps hold it there, which is a big part of why our lotions stay effective for hours rather than just immediately after application. It also contributes to the smooth feel of the formula on the skin.

A plant-derived emulsifier that forms part of the Ritamulse SCG system used in our body lotions. It helps bind the water and oil phases of the formula together, keeping the lotion stable and consistent. It also contributes a soft, smooth feel to the skin.
A naturally derived compound found in fruit juices and honey. In our body lotions, it works as part of the preservation system alongside Sodium Benzoate, helping to keep the formula stable and safe over time. It's well tolerated by sensitive skin and also carries mild antioxidant and humectant properties.
J
Technically a liquid wax rather than an oil, jojoba is pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub. Its molecular structure closely resembles the skin's own sebum, which means it absorbs readily without clogging pores or leaving a greasy residue. Used in our body lotions and body butter to add lightweight hydration and help other ingredients absorb more effectively.
L
We use Lavender Population essential oil — a variety known for a balanced, true-to-plant lavender scent. Used in our Calming Lavender body lotion and scented body butter variants, it gives those products their fragrance. Lavender essential oil is also well documented for its calming and mildly anti-inflammatory properties on the skin.
M
Extracted from the seed kernels of the mango fruit. Mango butter is solid at room temperature but melts quickly on contact with skin, absorbing smoothly without leaving a greasy film. It's rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, making it effective for dry or stressed skin. Used in our body butter and lip balms as a primary moisturizing ingredient.

Cold-pressed from the peel of pink grapefruit, this essential oil has a fresh, uplifting citrus scent. Used in our Pink Grapefruit body butter variant, it gives the product its bright, energizing fragrance. As with all citrus essential oils, it is photosensitive — avoid prolonged direct sun exposure immediately after application to areas where it's been applied.
S
A lightweight oil pressed from safflower seeds, high in linoleic acid. It absorbs quickly into the skin without feeling heavy, helps reinforce the skin's natural moisture barrier, and works well alongside richer butters and heavier oils to balance the overall texture of the formula. Used in our body lotions and body butter.
Extracted from the nuts of the shea tree, native to West Africa. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids and vitamins A and E, making it one of the most effective natural ingredients for deep, lasting moisture. It absorbs fully without clogging pores and helps support the skin's barrier function. Used in our body lotions as a primary conditioning ingredient.
A preservative derived naturally from benzoic acid, which occurs in many fruits and spices. Used in our body lotions as part of the preservation system alongside Gluconolactone, it prevents microbial growth and keeps the formula stable and safe for use over its shelf life. It is widely used in both cosmetics and food products and is well tolerated by most skin types.

A plant-derived emulsifier that forms part of the Ritamulse SCG system used in our body lotions. It works together with Glyceryl Stearate and Cetearyl Alcohol to create a stable, consistent emulsion that keeps water and oil blended evenly throughout the product's shelf life.
A lightweight, non-comedogenic oil pressed from sunflower seeds. High in vitamin E and oleic acid, it nourishes and softens the skin without clogging pores. It absorbs easily and helps other ingredients in the formula work more effectively. Used across our body lotions, body butter, and lip balms.

The naturally occurring form of Vitamin E. Used in our body butter and lip balms as an antioxidant, it helps protect the oils and butters in the formula from oxidizing over time — which extends shelf life and keeps the product performing as intended. It also has well-documented skin-conditioning properties, helping to keep the skin soft and nourished.
